“true Believer” up everywhere now

A few months back we recorded a new song “True Believer” with Kurt Ballou (Converge, GodCity Studio) for Converse Rubber Tracks and, which you can now download and stream on our bandcamp, itunes, spotify, and just about damn near everywhere else.

“equal parts post-metal, prog, stoner, psychedelic and sludge. Most importantly, they blend all these seemingly disparate elements into a whole that doesn’t sound the slightest bit scattered; it totally works. So where does that leave us? I don’t even fucking know. How about just “good,” is that enough? The band’s performance on “True Believer…” is their best to date. They sound even tighter and more focused here than they did on their Secret Snakes, Silent Serpent album, which only came out this past January.”

Go get your download on, and come here us play it live February 6th at BSP Kingston with Moon Tooth and It’s Not Night: It’s Space!

Happy New Year!

Happy new year, all. We had a tremendous 2015 with so many highlights- releasing a new album, being selected for Converse Rubber Tracks and working with Kurt Ballou, recording and performing at O+ Festival, playing so many amazing shows and meeting so many great friends… so we just wanted to say THANK YOU. Seriously, for all of your support.

We even managed to make it onto a couple top ten lists for 2015. Here’s where we ended up!

  • Trancendence Blog – #1 Instrumental Metal album of the year!
  • The Sideshow Podcast – #10! Episode 222: “Instrumental of the year. A big, rich, heavy and beautiful album.”
  • New Noise Magazine / Moon Tooth: New Noise magazine interviewed Moon Tooth and asked for their top ten of 2015 picks, which we landed on twice in no particular order.
  • Sleeping Shaman / Jason Hough – #3! “Quite honestly, with each release from these New York gentlemen, it becomes harder and harder to believe that there’s a genre of music these guys can’t touch and reinvent. Although primarily an instrumental sludge-borne heavyweight, Dead Empires stretch from psychedelic elements, crushing sludge tides, intoxicating ambience, steamrolling punk paces… even reggae gets a brief see-in. But it all equates to a thrilling powerhouse performance from one of the most supremely talented but criminally underrated groups around playing heavy, weirdly wonderful progressive music. The title split only serves to solidify the perfect balance of both beauty and beast found here.”
  • Darkside Records / Dennis O’Neil: We came in at #10 on his list for Darkside Records’ #DSTopTen2015 campaign!
  • / Nick Lee – Nick of Riot V and Moon Tooth selected us for his top 5 albums of 2015!

We have big things planned for 2016… we’ll see you all soon!

TONIGHT! We are a part of O+ FESTIVAL in Kingston NY. We’re playing The Anchor (at midnight) alongside Motor Tom, Blue Museum, and GET OUT., but there’s about a million other bands, artists, and performers (including our space metal madness brothers It’s Not Night: It’s Space at 9pm at BSP Kingston!)- so come hang out and support something good.

The O+ Festival is a three-day, community-run celebration of music and the arts. O+ participating artists exchange their contributions for health care services from art-loving doctors, dentists, and other wellness providers at the O+ Clinic. In short, it’s a grassroots, band-aid solution to inaccessible healthcare for the creative community. By programming the festival’s art and music events in various, venues (bars, restaurants, storefronts, even offices) throughout one neighborhood, O+ supports and unites local businesses and residents, artists, musicians and doctors, strengthening the fabric of a community to make it stronger, more sustainable, and more vibrant. If you don’t believe us, check out our O+ kick-off parade pictures.

See you soon Boston, aka Rubber Tracks and Kurt Ballou

Well, cat’s out of the bag. We are beyond honored to have been selected for Converse Rubber Tracks to record with Kurt Ballou (!!!). Thank you! Here’s what Vince Neilstein had to say:

Dead Empires are an instrumental trio, but they’re not the kind of instrumental band that 1) djents, thank goodness, 2) wanks around on their instruments, 3) gets too caught up in what they’re doing to forget to write good songs. DE’s instru-metal is dramatic, cinematic and grandiose, but it’s also gnarly and full of grit and character, eminently headbangable through and through. It’s the kind of music Mastodon (early Mastodon, natch) might’ve made if they’d decided to go the vocal-less route, which is to say that it’s big and burly and full of grade-A riffs; your papa’s prog this is not. Imagine them on a tour with Lazer/Wulf and you’re getting close.

Make sure to follow both ours as well as the Rubber Tracks social media accounts for updates and photos.

WAITING IN WAVES officially sold out!

This is Gino. He bought the last copy we had of WAITING IN WAVES on vinyl a few days ago.

So it’s official- the first pressing of our first full-length album, pressed on random-colored 12″ vinyl, is officially sold out and out of print! This is a huge milestone for us and we’re just going to take a quick moment to let that sink in… and say thanks to everyone who bought a copy! If you want one, you can still find a few at select independent music retailers (like Darkside Records in Poughkeepsie, NY) across the east coast. And if there was a time to artificially inflate prices on ebay, this is probably your best shot until one of us dies in a tragic viagra overdose. My money’s on Phil.

Jonesing for some Dead Empires physical media? We still have copies of the first pressing of our new album “Secret Snakes Silent Serpent” on CD available in our online store! Get one before we’re big bloated rock stars!

Hey, thanks for helping a band accomplish bucket list goals. Here’s to many more bigger ones together.
